After I had the dream of the village and the two elemental swords, I decided to make a comic of it. I honestly made a comic out of it because my brother at the time was also making a comic and I wanted to do the same thing. I know, not the coolest move. I ended up never finishing the comic and it was lost over time. But as the years went by, the dream stayed with me always.

A few months later (I think), my dream popped into my head again and I wanted to do something with it. My comic was long gone, so I decided to grab a pencil and a journal and sat down. I had been writing little things for a few years, but never put much thought into them. This was the first time I sat down for a few hours and put a lot of thought into it.

I was not good at writing at all. This was an example of what I wrote:

Master Dargon sat down at his desk with a quill and paper and began to write.

Dear Flame, Master to the fire elemental sword.

These are desperate times as I write. Lord Slayer is planning a massive war with all the elemental lands to find the sword of creation, which controls all the ten elements. We need your help to stop him. If you don't help, I get it. This is a tough quest, but I will have to call you a coward.

Yes, I actually wrote that. Unfortunately, I would get far into the book and then read back and think of new and better ideas, I would end up re-writing the book over and over and over, never finishing the original. Each time it would be better than the last. But the plot remained the same.

It got better, but I still wasn't good at writing. I wanted to look like an older person had written the story. I put the stories away so I could learn how to write better. But I never did. I got busy with other things and didn't write again.

That is, until January 2022, I was told to walk down the driveway and get the mail. Our driveway was long so it took about seven minutes to get the mail. I decided to talk to God about how things were going and some of my concerns. I wanted to be a zoologist and wondered what college I was going to. When I almost reached the house I heard him say, "Frank, I want you to write."

I stopped dead in my tracks. What did he just say? I asked what he meant by that. He said, "I want you to become an author, not a zoologist." I was speechless. I read every animal book I could grab, saw every documentary I could watch, made games out of animals I knew; all because I thought I would be a zoologist. I thought I was called to be one. And I did this for eight years! I had a lot of knowledge about animals. He wanted me to drop all of it and become an author? I knew nothing about writing!

I asked him why and He said, "Because I want to reach people through your stories." Those words hit me hard. So I shrugged and walked back to my house, leaving my dream of being a zoologist behind me. If he wanted me to write, I'll write. That night, I pulled my stories back out and began my new dream of being an author.
